Way is a fascinating two player platform game that relies on cooperation.

While this is an alpha version, Way is total enough to be truly enjoyable. You need to be on the web, then when you run the game it will search for a second player. When discovered, you commence your adventure. It’s probably half an hour long, but is unforgettable.

Soon after a quick tutorial stage, you are introduced to your Way companion. You can see every other, and communicate with a number of expressions by waving and pointing your arms. In this way, Way tends to make you cooperate to full puzzles and get by means of obstacles. This implies it can be a small irritating if you feel your companion is not very excellent, but by the finish you will have a wonderful feeling of achievement.

Graphically, Way is reminiscent of Tiny Large Planet on the PlayStation. It is cute, but looks great, with animations that give your avatars a lot of character. Controls are easy, but like Little Massive Planet, jumping and movement can really feel a small imprecise. That doesn’t ruin what is a actually outstanding small game although.

If you’re a sucker for old-school 2D platform games and love anything frog themed, then Frogatto may be right up your street.

Frogatto is a 2D platform game where you take control of a frog which has to work through a plot driven storyline to reach his goal without getting eaten or blasted first. Frogatto features some real retro pixel art graphics but has a surprisingly pumping soundtrack and slick gameplay. Think Donkey Kong but with frogs and you’re in the right ballpark.

You can kill enemies with your tongue by swallowing them and even spitting them out at other enemies for good measure. As you fight the end level bosses, you gradually collect coins and can use them to buy upgrades and new abilities. One of the most fun parts of the game is where you talk to different characters to unravel the plot against the townsfolk that you ultimately have to foil. There are around 30 levels to Frogatto and if that’s not enough, you can even create your own with a level editor.

Frogatto has everything to keep retro platform gaming fans absorbed for more than just a few levels.

Magnight is a game about a pilot who has to repair his plane using parts he finds in the mysterious island he has crashed on.

This physics-based puzzle platformer sees you using a pair of magnetic gloves to manipulate the world around you. The controls are pretty simple, using the keyboard to move, and the mouse to look around and control the magnetic gloves. These are activated in Magnight by clicking your left or right mouse button.

Objects are littered around levels that can be given a polarity (in Magnight that’s blue or red), or that already have polarity. You can charge your pilot with a red or blue magnetic force to push objects, jump and activate things. There are three levels in this demo, and it’s tricky enough to take a while.

The biggest problem with Magnight is that the in-game instructions don’t make the game mechanics totally clear. This can make Magnight frustrating, and even when you do have the controls down, using the magnetic forces is tricky. This game is really pretty, with great sound too, but it feels like it needs some gameplay tweaking before release.

Magnight is a good looking and atmospheric game that at the moment is a bit awkward to play.
