Wireless Expertise, the mobile market research and consulting company have recently released a forecast showing that the mobile appllications and gaming market could reach $16.6 Billion by the year 2013, or in other figures, a rise of around 12 Billion over the next 4 years. The rise has been predicted due to the huge increase in the sales of smartphones, which are expected to triple over the same period, with an estimated 1.6 Billion smartphone users globally.
The CEO of Wireless Expertise, Anuj Khanna was reported as commenting “We expect smartphone growth to have a positive impact on the number of application downloads in the short- to mid-term,” in a prepared statement. “Strong revenues are expected to come from low-end mass market smartphones and mid-to high-end feature-phones in the mid- to long-term as operators and handset manufacturers take app stores to the mass market.”
